(Intro) Hi Ms Can Bunny!

Ok I actually came up with this idea last Saturday (02/7-8). I pulled an all-nighter (of course) and worked on some basics for this baby’s first game.

I wanted to gift my partner something fun for Valentine’s Day. The idea started with making a desktop pet, but that’s kinda boring. I love Bongo Cat, and I’m super excited for their upcoming desktop game Tap Tap Loot - it seems like I’m not able to come up with a better idea than these within the short amount of time. Plus, I kinda wanna play with more things. Then my thoughts drifted to making a Galgame as that’s currently a part of the trending meme in Chinese social media: how life isn’t a Galgame but people are joking to live in such a way. But Galgames requires a story, and I didn’t want to fumble on that. I couldn’t bear a bad, thoughless one. Eventually, I decided to make something that requires less consideration on story and narrative (which are what I’m doing for most of my creative career), and leaning into something that I ABSOLUTELY am afraid of - strategy & simulation.

I have a fear of thinking about balancing numbers, in-game values etc.

But Harry told me that the key to doing good numbers for strategy games is to just put the numbers in and keep testing them. I never understood that until I actually stepped into this chaos of writing a simulation game - we are going to cover this later.

This is what happened during 02/06 9pm to 02/07 11am…

~Original Concept~

(initial sketch)

I love how Deconstructeam did with Cosmic Sisterhood and Essays on Empathy; the little boxes of housing layouts always have a place in my heart. So I wanted to do something similar for this game. The layout was pulled from my actual apartment, where there are clear zones I can create functions/gameplay elements with.

(initial figma board)

I love figma. But we have no time (I need to have a “complete” game on 02/14). So here’s a very dirty Figma that lays out all the gameplay elements, values needed, and a little bit of formatting & diagrams.

Goal of the game (or this operation)

  • Simple

  • A product that has a beginning and a middle. Not sure about the end.

  • Playable

  • Cute stuff. Cute image and animation for the Can Bunny

  • Learn Godot. Nothing gets me more prepared for tackling larger projects than just working on one.

~3D Model~

I blocked a 3D model reference because I couldn’t figure out how to make the perspective tool I have in Photoshop to just draw orthographical boxes of the 3/4 perspective.

(3d model in Maya)

With this 3D model, I’m able to draw on top of it for creating the base game map, and so on.
